How Do Cooling Racks Work?
There are many types of cooling racks and choosing the right one for your needs is essential. The amount of cooling that is needed will be determined by how many computers are in use at any given time. In a small office, one of these racks will be sufficient, while in a medium sized or large company the number of computers will be much higher. When purchasing the appropriate cooling rack, there are a few things to consider. First, there are two basic kinds: self-cooling and air-cooling.
Self Chill - This rack cools the computer by using condensed water in its radiators. These can either be bought or made at home. It only takes about an hour or so for a computer to be cooled using this method. The components may feel warm to the touch, but they are not damaged because of the chill process.
Air Cooling - Air-coolers work with the principles of radiator heat-sinks. The water contains antifreeze that forces the warm air close to it and the cool air is forced out of the computer enclosure through the vents. When the water reaches a certain temperature, this process stops. The liquid refrigerant cools the computer by using a compressor. If you buy an air-conditioner, it uses a similar principle to air-cooling.
Although both cool the computer, air-coolers use less energy than the water coolers. The compressed air, however, releases toxic gasses. They have to be used with care because they may damage sensitive electronic parts if not used properly. You also have to open the laptop case and remove the battery for every time you want to use it. This is because the liquid refrigerant has to go somewhere to cool the computer.
In some cases, one cooling rack is better than the other. Some cooling racks have a single outlet, while others have multiple outlets. For heavy duty cooling racks, multiple outlets are better because you can use more cooling fans simultaneously. Each fan can turn off and on automatically, depending on the load.
Single outlet cooling is ideal if your computer is used only when some work is going on. If you use the cooling equipment often, you can get the best performance from one unit. Otherwise, you will have to share the power with several other machines that use the same cooling system.
Another advantage of using a cooling rack is that space is saved. Cooling racks are usually placed on the floor near your computer because space is limited. Since the liquid refrigerant is heated, the temperature inside the computer is lower than the ambient temperature outside. This reduces condensation and keeps the inside of the computer dry.
Finally, air conditioners can cause damage to the cooling racks if they are not properly maintained. Make sure that you use the cooling equipment properly. You should never leave your computer for long periods of time without having it cool down. Make sure you clear away any leftover air from the cooling rack when you do.
The material your cooling racks are made out of will determine how effective they are at removing heat from the inside of your computer. Try to use a rack that uses a tightly sealed aluminum or copper plate. Air conditioned racks are best suited to heating systems that use liquid to reduce moisture. Cooling racks made of fiberglass will not reduce moisture but will not be able to insulate your computer either. They are good for use with computers that need to remain relatively cool, but should not be used with furnaces.
Acoustic cooling racks work well for sound proofing a room because the sound will not be muffled by the vibrations in the air that accompany the use of a cooling rack. These types of cooling racks are ideal for a home studio where sound is a problem. Also, if you use an air conditioned server, these products will help keep your server in good working order so that it does not overheat. This will prevent your system from becoming unreliable due to overheating.
There are many different sizes of air conditioning racks to choose from and depending on what type of components you are cooling will determine the size that you need. Smaller units will be good for single component cooling systems, while a larger unit will be needed for heating systems. Some cooling rack models are equipped with two fans and others have one fan and a second pump that circulate the air. A third type has two fans and a single pump that circulate the air. Whatever type you use, make sure that the unit will fit properly into the spot where you intend to put it.
Cooling racks are designed to keep parts of a computer cool during intense workloads. They can be used in any type of environment, whether it is for an office building or a home. A cooling rack allows you to keep one computer's temperature stable while allowing other components of the machine to stay cool. While this device cannot stop your computer from becoming hot, it can keep the internal temperature from rising to dangerous levels.
